Make a wish

Did you know that today it's been one year since my first post here at Journal de Petits Details? How cool is that, uh? Yeah, I've been on and off for a while, but today is the day when I started writing a year ago, and I think that's pretty big!

And to celebrate I wanted to share with you this wonderful story in the video below. I recommend that you turn on your speakers (it doesn't have to be very loud, it is just music after all) as you watch this story about a couple at war told by this unbelievably talented artist on Ukraine's got Talent, of whom I promise to do more reaserch later on.

I had never seen a story being told with sand, light and music before and I was blown away like the whole audience sitting there watching the show. And it made me think how sometimes we complain that we don't really have any talents in us, that we can't really do anything special enough... After watching this video I started thinking: well... maybe we weren't really looking...

Spring time!!

Yes!! It's finally here!! So sorry about you guys in the northern hemisphere, but it was about time we got to clear out our closets to make room for fun, flirty skirts and tanks, strappy sandals and open bedroom windows. Time to move into the end of the year and start planning beach escapades and romantic nights outside (if only in a balcony...).

I don't know about you, but I was waiting for this day like a kid waits for the break during Math class.... and even though it might be cold and cloudy tomorrow, today was just perfect! (even though we're no longer students thus not having Spring Day off).

I had a cute little office picnic by Puerto Madero, how about you?? Are you as giddy and excited as I am about this spring?

Commitment issues?

I miss this blog. I miss your comments, and I miss all the other  blogs I used to spend ages on. Would you say I have commitment issues? I mean, after all, I can't seem to be able to keep this blog updated with no interruptions for more than a month.

I came back from Europe a couple of weeks ago, and I still seem to have some sort of ever-going jet lag I never experienced before... what's that all about?? My body doesn't seem to get along with this time zone at all.

But well, I'm back! Back at the office, back catching up with friends, and back trying not to fall back on the old routine, but trying to remember all the revolutionary ideas I came back with. Let's see how long I can keep it up!! But for now, I'd just be content with getting rid of the suitcase that has been lying in the middle of my room ever since I came back. I guess I like the feeling of a half filled suitcase, not really showing wether you're leaving or if you just came back.

Le boudoir

I'm very very sleepy, and that might, in part, be the reason why I'm loving these rooms' pictures so much!! I just had to share. Wish I had a bit of time to fix up my room the way I'd love it. That way I could kiss away my trerrible sleeping habits!!

Bonne nuit!

Addicted

I have this terrible addiction... and I'm not talking about chocolate, nor Paris, shoes or travelling. This is an addiction I can't quite seem to manage (much like chocolate).

The thing is, even if by chance I do happen to hear the 5th alarm go off on time, I always seem to take longer and longer to get ready every morning, and I wind up being unnecessarily late. Don't ask me why, it just happens that way. And "oh, I'm late again" and I hail a taxi on my way out.

Every freakin' morning by now...

And of course it's ridiculous! And I'm totally cheap on other things, but a taxi is never money wasted. There's something in being driven to work, having all that back seat space to yourself. Not having to push your way around a  busy train station. Not holding onto your purse like a life vest, riding with the train's doors one centimetre from your  face.... I know it's ridiculous, and it needs to stop now!!

Still... there's nothing like a good conversation with a nice taxi driver!

Why?

Why, if I went to sleep an hour and a half earlier than usual, did I keep on sleeping?

Why, if I have five alarms strategicalky scheduled at different times for me to get up ontime, I heard none?

Why did I overslept on the day I had important stuff to do before going to the office?

Why did I have to leave the house in such a rush I couldn't even see the weather forecast?

Why did I, on the coldest day of the year, leave the house on ballerina flats and no socks??

And why on Earth is it snowing all over Argentina, exept in Buenos Aires?!?!

On being freinds

July 20th is Friends' Day in Argentina, and of course I realise that you don't celebrate friendship, the whole of it, just on one day, but it does give you a chance to get out of your daily routine (no matter if it's Monday, you're tyred, you've got exams, you crashed your car, your moving into a new house or you're psychosomatic about Influenza A) and express, share and care for each other on this day, as you would any other day. But at least like this, with an almost National Day dedicated to friendship, you get to celebrate and gather your bestest friends around you no matter what's going on in the world.

I don't know about you, but I spent it the best way you could: around a big ravioli plate, lots of chocoalte for desert, and all the stories that happened to us from our last reunion (last Friday night)!

Yay to Friends' Day!!

25th!

I realise I can't keep appearing and disapearing like that... but after the 2 working days week I had, and this Monday being my birthday and all I've been running everywhere and just now got the time to sit down and type.

I had a great 25th birthday! I got lots of calls from far far away, my friends came over, and I got the coolest presents: a day at a spa!, gorgeous clothes, $, and a cool new handbag. But I wanted to post about a particular present that flew in all the way from London, UK, and when I opended it I actually squealed out loud!!

Judge for yourselves:

I can't wait until I get to London!!!!

*When I showed this postcard to my grandma she just looked at it and said that she "can't believe what things are coming to... a prince shouldn't dress like this... it looks like a picture of a movie star rather than the heir to the British throne". LOL

By general request...

And so I'm back
from outter space
I just walked in to find you here
with that smile upon your face!

Yes, I'm back, cause the blog had to be back. It really isn't its fault that I'm working like crazy at the office, and life and whatnot, so it's back! (Although I might start resenting you reader in the short term, when my boss' looking over my shoulder trying to figure out what I'm so intently typing about).

If it makes you feel any better, I haven't changed my Facebook photo since January, so there! Oh!! And before I forget... I'm going to Paris this *Europen* summer!! Could things get any better right now?

PS: It feels good to be back!

Oid mortales!

Yesterday was our National Anthem's day, and perhaps it doesn't seem like such a big story to post about... but it's our anthem and I love it! And I'm not just saying that 'cause I'm Argentine, it is really good.

On the video above it's being played at Plaza de Mayo, across from the Casa Rosada, by the Regimiento Patricios Military band, who I think are excellent!

Don't really know if this is much of a story at all... but we don't usually make a huge deal of our national symbols and I thought it was a good time to spread the sound!

The week started again

(There should've been a photo here but Blogger is being funny today)

I know, I know, I've been very bad these past few days and I've been away from the blog a bit too long, I guess I took Workers' Day too seriously... that and the fact that yesterday I had a French exam, and the schemming about the trip and all...

Anyway, all is well and I'm back in the blogosphere, trying to dish up something you'd love. So stick around for some cute stuff this week! (either that or my usual random thoughts)  :)

Have a great week!

On the other side of the globe

There's this amazing photographic presetation at the Aliance Française of Buenos Aires going on these days, organised to celebrate Médecins du Monde's 10 years in Argentina with photos by some really good photographers depicting life in some of the harshest places in our planet.

And the serie that caught my eye is "Crisis in Congo" by Andrew McConnell. The photos are unbelievable, the kind that just take your breath away as they open a huge question mark or unleash a turmoil of thoughts in your head. The first thing I thought when I saw the first picture was: "Gosh, there's someone sleeping in those huts tonight". I know it's silly, but it's not a thought that occurs to you when you go about doing your regular stuff. It caught me by surprise as I was going to my French classes. And it made me think of the times when I wanted to work with refugees and the UN in my teen years...

There's a whole world out there, and sometimes I feel like we're completely disconnected from it, from them. And I know there's a lot of people in need right here too, but when you read about the millions of people that are being pushed out of their land into refugee camps due to the political interests of a few... it just makes you think, and not be comfortably seated in a cubicle any more.

Happy birthday S!!

I'm totally jaded of hearing "grown-ups" (yes, I still refuse to be one) complain about "this generation" and how we say we're so connected but we're really more disconnected than ever. This concept, or rather this way of thinking, can only come from someone who's absolutely diconnected from everything and everyone and can't quite grasp the whole 21st century concept, in my opinion.

Yesterday was S's birthday, and Anette and I went to her house for a little celebration. Miss Pez has flown back to the UK this weekend and couldn't be here, in the traditional sort of way, but she actually was! Thanks to Skype and a web cam she could even see as S opened her gift and everything in real time!! I'm constantly mesmerised by things like this, you know... when you take a step back and see things from the outside looking in... it's amazing how one of us could take part in it all sitting in a living room in London while we chatted away at the mike on S's dining room in Buenos Aires. And perhaps as you're reading this you're thinking "Well... duh! that's internet for ya!", but maybe, just maybe, you're like me, being amazed by the littlest things in life.

Note: believe it or not this is a picture of a real cake made by Louise from CakeJournal!! Isn't it amazing?? (via Audrey Hepburn Complex).

History in the making

Last week an Argentine ex-president passed away. I wasn't really planning to go to the ceremony that held place along the streets of Buenos Aires basicaly because I didn't feel a very strong connection with him, I mean, I know he was the first democratically elected President in a very long time, and that's a huge thing, but appart from that... I dunno, I'm not taking sides on something that happened when I was a one-year-old, besides the fact that I'm absolutely grateful I lived all my life in democracy.

That being said, I wound up unvoluntarily in the middle of the whole thing on my way to S's house and by fortune I had my camera with me! So you get a little glimpse of the throngs of people gathering up to see the Army escort go by. It was really thrilling to take part of it, even though I did it in my own way: seeing people's faces, reading the flags and banners and looking up at the poeple looking down on us from their valconies.

It was literaly like seeing history in the making, and I loved it.

School reunion

Last weekend we finaly had a proper 2002 class reunion and I think it was a success!! Afert all, 20 out of 30 showed up and I loved it.

Sure, we were not as glamorous as Gossip Girl (or at least not all of us), but we did attend an all-girls, Catholic school and with all the downsides that came with that, we had a lot of amazing experiences too. It isn't easy attending a school of over 900 girls... and yeah, I loved the times when I got to go to a co-ed school. But, looking back, our school was great in way too many ways, after all, seven years after graduation a lot of us still remain best friends.

I enjoyed getting to see how everyone was doing, there are girls I literally hadn't seen since graduation day and it was really nice to see how life is turning out for all of us, what cool things some have been up to. I dunno... it was great to see everyone from a completely new perspective.

I hope there are many more of these, so that everyone who missed out this weekend can join!

Guest writers wanted

So, you think you have something to say? Speak up!!

Anyone who wants to pour their ideas into the web, however deep, silly or just plain neurotic ;), get the chance to write a column whenever they feel like it on Journal de petits détails. This doesn't mean that if you wrote once you have to write in here very week. I'm going to keep posting as usual, but I realised that there are many readers who are just too lazy to keep a blog of their own, but who have great ideas and insights for all of us to hear.

Therefore, if in a moment of utter madness you write something you wanna share, send me an e-mail and you'll see it here, whether in Spanish or English, will post it so that everyone can read you!

Tae bo junkies

These are absolutely random thoughts that occured to me last night at the gym, so you know that nothing good can really come out of it... please bare with me.

But as I was jumping up un down punching the air I started thinking that I don't really mind the ridiculously buff sweaty instructor, nor the music that's so loud that stops feeling like music and starts resembling airplane noise... what really gets me is the typical gym junkie. The girl in a perfect tan, matching gym gear, make up (I mean, come on! Did you really apply three coats of mascara just to come jump up and down with all of us??), who knows the class better than the instructor, only she does everything one tempo faster, making it absolutely impossible for you on your baggy joggins and uncoordinated limbs to follow the instructor/her on the mirror. I mean, seriously!

More gym thoughts by the end of the week, as S* is making me go back there... Argh!! The gym... why must we??

Flashdance photo from here (now, if I danced like her... it would be a completely different story).

March (un)resolution...

Argh! What a night!! For the first time in like forever I managed to go to bed before 1am, in a plan to start March more organised, finally getting up at the time I'm supposed to, arriving at the train station on time and never again taking a cab to come to work. My plan was going along fine, until I woke up in the middle of the night due to one of the hardest thunder storms I'd seen in ages.

At 2.26 the skies were falling, I quickly closed the window (I can't sleep with the shutters closed) and all I could see from my pillow was the lightning stiking every five seconds or less and buckets of rain pouring against my window. I do like sleeping through a storm, but this was way bigger than anything we'd gotten lately. I eventually fell back asleep, but I slept like crap and had the weirdest series of dreams I'd rather not name.

By the time I woke up (rather late) I really meant to not take a taxi. I really did, only to turn on the news and find out the train was down, the main accesses from home were blocked by gigantic tree branches and I took the longest taxi drive ever... so much for my March resolution...

Let this be a reminder...

Let this be a reminder to all of you... if you have any alternate e-mail accounts (like say in HOTMAIL), remember to check in once in a while, like in the next 290 days since your last login. Otherwise, all your emails will be GONE.

So goodbye to all my High School emails. Goodbye subscription codes and user names. Goodbye old chats and e-mails from my teen years... you shall be missed.

It's a cruel, cruel summer

8am. One of the hotest days of the year. You, standing in front of your closet deciding what to wear on a day you know will reach 40°C or more, plus rain.

Argh!!!

What do you do?? I mean, you surely can't show up naked at the office, even if it's Casual Friday. And showing up in a bathing suit and rain boots is pretty much out of the question too.... And as I write this, I see out of the office windows how the entire city went from a bright sunny humid day to a black, threatening, concrete city and I'm wondering how I'll walk out of here, or if I'll leave this place at all!!

Fortunately I'm going away for the weekend to a place called Pergamino, haven't been in a while so I promise some good pictures!!

Have a great weekend!
